To the wonderful folks at the Feline
Rescue,

Biggun & Lil Bit
Thought you'd enjoy seeing how beautiful Biggun and Lil Bit
have become and especially Lil Bit. I adopted Lil Bit when he
was approximately 4 weeks old and your volunteer was afraid
that he would not make it through the first night. As you can
see, he's become quite the handsome fellow. Biggun found me
at the Abu Dhabi Coop next to the Beach Rotana. I was going
through the parking garage and she came up and rubbed against
my leg. I knew then that I wanted that sweet kitty and the next
morning I received a call that you had trapped her.
These two wonderful kitties lived with me at the Vision Towers
in Abu Dhabi until I found out that I was being sent back to
the United States. I knew that I wasn't leaving without my "kids"
since they were part of my family. They were little troopers
during their long journey to their new home and have been sweet
enough to let me live with them here in the mountains of Colorado.
We returned home to Colorado in January of this year and what
a delight to see their reaction the first time they saw snow.
I bundled them up in a blanket and took them outside where I
held them snuggled next to me so they could feel the snowflakes.
They have spent their days setting in the windows watching the
racoon, deer and bear. Unfortunately, we also have fox and coyotes
so they can't go outside yet.
I'd like you to share their story with other expats who have
been kind enough to adopt these wonderful cats. It breaks my
heart to read the stories on your website of folks who have
taken these kitties into their homes only to leave them behind
when they leave the UAE. It's devastating to these animals to
have the love and comfort of a real home only to be put back
out on the streets of Abu Dhabi. It broke my heart everyday
to see the street cats everywhere I turned and I only wish I
could have saved more than my two.
Biggun and Lil Bit share their home here in Colorado with 2
more stray cats--Star and Black Kitty. I'd rescued Star 8 years
ago. Black Kitty was a wild kitten who turned up on my front
step one cold January night. I fed her for 6 months and then
was able to capture her. She's now been spayed and microchipped
and is now Lil Bit's new best friend. More recently I rescued
a 10 year old Collie who was about to be put down because he
was too old to be adopted. Although he has to take medication
for various ailments, he's a sweet gentleman and all the cats
adore him now.
Keep up the wonderful work that you do and, having lived in
Abu Dhabi for a year, I know that work seems endless. Please
remind anyone who has taken in a street kitty that making them
a permanent part of their family is well worth the cost of flying
them to their home country. I wouldn't have had it any other
way. Leaving those precious creatures behind is certain death
for them if they end up back on the street!
God bless you all!
