The Beginning
Feline Friends
was founded by a British lady called Lesley King in September 1991.
She was upset and saddened by the plight of many of Abu Dhabi's
street cats. So she started Feline Friends.
What
is Feline Friends?
Feline
Friends is a non profit making organization that helps cats in the
U.A.E. Volunteers rescue and re-home stray cats and kittens; promote
the control of street cats by sterilization and re-release and provide
care and relief to sick and injured cats and kittens.
What
is a volunteer?
A volunteer
is some one who is willing to give their time and/or money to help
Feline Friends.
Where
is Feline Friends office and what are their opening hours?
Feline
Friends does not have an office; all their volunteers work from
home.
Where
is the telephone?
Feline
Friends has two mobile phones that are manned by volunteers, so
please be patient.
General
& Emergency - 050 582-2916
Homing
& Fostering - 050 823-1569
Why
didn’t Feline Friends get back to me immediately?
Feline
Friends answers the messages in order of priority, so a message
telling us about an injured cat will get priority over a message
from some one looking for a cat to adopt. Please be patient Feline
Friends will return your call as soon as possible.
Where
can we see cats available for adoption?
Cats
in the Feline Friends homing and fostering program are housed at
the German Veterinary Clinic (GVC) and the American Veterinary Clinic
(AVC) and in foster homes.
Cats
can only be viewed by appointment, please call Homing & Fostering
on 050 823-1569.
Can
I foster a cat?
Yes.
Feline Friends would ask you some questions and ask you to abide
by some simple rules. The foster cat remains the responsibility
of Feline Friends and may be permanently homed at any time. Feline
Friends is always in need of people who are willing to foster a
cat, so if you are interested we would appreciate your call.
Can
I leave my cat with Feline Friends when I go on vacation?
Feline
Friends does not own a cattery and our foster homes are always full.
Your local vet should be able to tell you where the best Kennels
and Catteries are.
I
own a cat; can I give it to Feline Friends when I leave?
If
you really can't take the cat with you when you leave, tell Feline
Friends as soon as you know you are leaving and they will help you
to find your cat a home. Please do not expect Feline Friends to
take your cat on short notice because they may not have a foster
home for the cat.
Can
Feline Friends help with the export of our cat?
Your
local vet will have all the information you need and will be able
to help you with the export of your cat.
Can
we abandon our cat on the street when we leave?
If
you can't take it with you, or find it a home, it would be kinder
to euthanase it. If you abandon your cat it will have to find its
own food and shelter, defend itself against feral cats and risk
getting killed crossing roads. You give this cat somewhere to live
with food and protection. Is it fair to abandon it? Would you do
this to someone you love?
We
want a black, fluffy, friendly male 4-year-old cat. Can Feline Friends
help?
Feline
Friends do try to find the cat you want, we may suggest that you
go and see a cat that isn’t exactly what you want, but please
go and see it; it may be the perfect cat for you.
Do
we have to pay for a cat?
Feline
Friends do ask that if you can afford it you make a donation that
covers the veterinary costs for your cat. Before any cat is put
up for adoption it has had a health check and if it is old enough
it has been sterilized. By making a donation that covers Feline
Friends expenses for your cat, you have ensured that they have enough
money to help another cat.
It
is 10pm and we have found an injured cat. Can Feline Friends come
immediately?
Yes
if it is possible. If the cat is seriously injured Feline Friends
would try to get a volunteer to you. If it is not seriously injured,
Feline Friends would ask that you look after the cat until morning
It
is midnight. We have found a stray cat. Can Feline Friends come
NOW?
Please
do not ring a volunteer at this time of night unless it is absolutely
necessary. The volunteers are not on call 24 hours a day 7 days
a week. If you can, please look after the cat until morning and
call the voice mail with your details. Feline Friends would then
try to help in the morning.
