FOR ADOPTING A CAT PLEASE
CALL THE HOMING COORDINATOR:

Adopting
a Cat from Feline Friends:
1. After you have left a message on the Feline Friends voicemail
indicating you wish to adopt a F.F cat the Homing and Fostering
Coordinator will contact you and discuss the type of cat you are
looking for (kitten/adult, colour, sex, local/pedigree etc.)
2. She will also ask your questions about you home situation which
will help her to shortlist approximately 4/5 cats which seem to
match both your requirements and your lifestyle.
3. She will then give you the details of the cats she feels is most
suitable together with the contact details of the foster parent.
You may then contact one or all of the foster parents to arrange
a time to visit their home to view the cat(s).
4. Before going to see the cats please purchase a cat carrier, either
from the vet, a pet store or even a picnic basket with a firmly
fitting lid as you will not be allowed to take the cat from the
foster parent if you do not have an appropriate carrier. (A cardboard
box is not cat safe). Please also purchase a litter tray, cat litter,
scoop, food bowls and some cat food prior to taking the cat home,
not on the way home, or the next day, as the cat most likely wants
to use the litter tray very soon after arrival at its new home!!
5. If you adopt a cat from Feline Friends we would ask you for
a donation to cover the cost of its sterilisation, first and
second immunizations and veterinary checkup (450dhs for a local
cat and 600dhs for a pedigree such as a Persian, Chinchilla
, Burmese or Siamese as we will have automatically have done
an FIV test on the cat). If you adopt a kitten that is too young
to have been sterilized, you may pay the donation required on
adoption and this will ensure you do not pay for the cat's sterilization
in the future. (please call the Feline Friends Homing Line before
you take the cat for sterilisation so that we may sanction the
surgery at either the American Veterinary Clinic, British Veterinary
Centre or German Veterinary Clinic). You may leave the donation
with the foster parent, or if you adopt a cat directly from
one of the veterinary clinics you may leave it with the receptionist.
6. If the cat you adopt does not seem to be settling in after a
reasonable amount of time (this will vary depending on the age and
personality of the cat) please contact the Homing Line again and
discuss any problems with the coordinator. She may be able to offer
you advice or will arrange to have
the cat taken back into our care. Please do not just return it to
the foster parent as she may have been given another cat to foster
in the interim .
7. Please note, when you adopt a cat from Feline Friends it
is your responsibility to arrange for its care when you are
away on vacation. Feline friends cannot look after it for you
during your absence. We would recommend you ask friends, neighbours,
or relatives, well in advance, if they are willing to feed it
and see to its litter tray for you. Alternatively the American
Veterinary Clinic, British Veterinary Centre and German Veterinary
Clinic all have excellent boarding facilities for cats and should
be contacted in good time, especially during peak periods, to
avoid disappointment. (AVC 02 665-5044, BVC 02 665-0085, GVC
02 556-2036)
8. Never abandon the cat outdoors whatever the circumstances. Contact
Feline Friends to discuss your options.
If you are interested in either fostering or adopting a Feline
Friends cat, please call 050 823-1569 (Abu Dhabi) and 050 451-0058
(Dubai).
